After listening to a client (one-half of a husband and wife run retail business) it was clear this was not a source of joy, passion or fulfilment for her. They had been in business for over 10 years and the entire time she had felt like it’s been an uphill battle with no satisfaction reward.
Going through the motions, she is feeling resentful of her spouse’s spending on stock and getting affirmed from being a customer favourite. She feels stuck.
It was so disheartening to hear. The store was ticking over and if there was contentment, she could be happy… But this is not her love and having given this business over a decade to try and grow to like it, it was time to ask some reflective questions.
What do you love to do?
Could you happily spend the rest of your life doing this?
What brings you joy?
Is there something bigger than yourself, a way to give back that’ll bring you fulfilment?
Having never been asked these questions before, her mind started racing to find an answer but landed on none.
You may experience the same asking the above questions. My only request is that you keep asking them to yourself. The fog will lift. Glimpses of answers will appear.
Write them down, however obscure, silly, selfish, not inline with what you “should” be doing they are.
You can fall short of doing what you “should” be doing, so why not aim for doing exactly what you love?
Life is what you do with it. Do what you love as much as you can.
Needing space to figure out what you love? Or know what you want, just need time to go get it. The Busy Business Owners Retreat is taking bookings. Be immersed in nature, distraction free and fully supported, so you can focus. More information can be found here.
