We all have moments, days, weeks & even months of feeling completely lost in the mess that, if we’re honest, we’ve created. Staying in that self-sabotaging state isn’t going to do you any favours. So how do you snap yourself back into productivity & understand why you got so lost in the first place?
Here is an hour log template, print it out and for 1 week, without any judgment or editing, just log what you’re doing with your time.
Why?
- Awareness – Do you even know where you’re wasting time?
- Focusing – Clearing the space & re-enforcing your why
- Don’t do anything, unless you know why
- Try not to start with nothing…. Collect ideas, notes, screen shots, have a couple of templates. I recommend Jing for screenshots and just use a file on my laptop and notepads (can be scanned into a file). For sharing information, I am loving Google Drive right now.
- Write down/capture when you have the idea. It can always be refined later. Way better than losing the idea
- Once you completed your task, move onto another. Facebook and alike are great productivity killers “I’ll just go and update that status. Oh, look dancing cats!” ….. 4 hours later…..”Where has the day gone?”
- Have a deadline. Nothing puts a hot poker to your bum like a deadline (hands up if you just got a visual then? hehe).
- Take a few seconds to enjoy the feeling of a task completed. Reward yourself for a job well done. It makes the day way more fun and you start to crave that feeling. Being productive isn’t a bad addiction to have;-)
