In the past, you’ve had your fair share of successful activities which grow your business. You’ll also have experienced ones which performed badly. In fact, some are probably so embarrassing that you’d rather never think about them again.
Well sorry, but you do.
We’re not born with the power of foresight, but we are able to reflect on the past and use it to make decisions for the future. That’s why a careful analysis of the activities we’ve done in the past to advance our business, helps us choose the right ones to focus on next.
That’s why one of the best ways to identify successful activities which grow your business is to look at both your successes and failures. Today I’m going to discuss with you how to use both experience types to propel your business forward.
How to Tap into Successful Activities Which Grow Your Business
Business reflection, two words many business owners are not too happy to hear. Yet spending time analysing our past efforts both good and bad helps us identify the successful activities which grow your business.
Author Barry LePatner, an American author and thought leader once said, “Good judgement comes from experience and experience comes from bad judgement.” You can take from this that we benefit from our mistakes, making it vital we analysis them.
But it’s not just the unsuccessful activities which we learn from. When we actively note down what we’ve done well and why it was successful, we can replicate it again! After all, why spend time reinventing the wheel when it’s already been done?
It’s Reflection Time
To reflect upon your past business activities, you’ll need to:
- Schedule Time – put the date and time when you’ll do your business reflection in your diary. It’s just as important as your other tasks!
- Be Accountable – if you’re a procrastinator, you’ll understand how important it is to have someone checking in with you, about your to-do list. As a business accountability coach, I help my clients keep on track and I’d love to help you do the same too.
- Ask for Help – we’re not islands, we’re people. Sometimes it helps to discuss your experiences with others. They provide a sounding board as well as providing another viewpoint. I provide that service too.
- Revisit Old Records – often we remember the really bad and the really good things. But what about those which rest in the middle? By looking through your old diary, financial records, social media notes and professional development tasks, you’re bound to find positive activities you had forgotten about.
It’s time to forget heading back to square one – you’ve already been there, done that. Instead, take the time to sift through what you’ve already done and use your past experiences to make choices for the future. Get in touch and together we’ll make a plan to grow your business.
