I first discovered the power of words whilst birthing my 2nd child (half of readers gone, hehe). I had been told that changing the word pain for pressure in your head, made contractions more bearable & it blooming worked!
So I looked at how impactful (yep, made up word) the words you choose to tell yourself are…especially when motivating yourself to run your own business.
For 1 week make a concious decision to change every “I have to” in to “I get to”. It puts you in the mind set of gratitude rather then a feeling of burden.
Try it.
“I have to post on Facebook 3 times a day to get engagement.”
Becomes
“I get to engage with my audience 3 times a day.”
Say it to yourself and you’ll instantly feel better about doing the task.
I plan to do a follow up blog on this so I’ll need your help. Try changing the words you say to yourself, even if only for a day…or the next necessary business tasks that come up & report back in the comments of how it went. Did you feel any different about doing the task? What words did you change? How easy/difficult was it to consciously change the words you were saying to yourself? Can’t wait to hear the results
Impactful. Poignant. The ‘pressure’ with my second baby was far more intense than the first but rephrasing it as pressure rather than pain definitely makes it easier to deal with – even in the past tense.
Words are a powerful drug. 😉
I’d say music is pretty powerful stuff too.
Nice insight. I’ll try it 🙂
Good idea. I’ll let you know how I go.
How did it go? What did you catch yourself saying & what did you change it to?
Sounds cool 🙂 I’ll try it and let you know what happens!
