Before *asking for help/questions, please, please, please learn from my mistake and take a few seconds to think why you are asking.
I recently started doing some personal development which is not cheap. This was my way of asking for help. The problem is I really didn’t nail down why I was was asking for help…
I don’t think I’m alone in this unconscious way of thinking and now I have realised what I was doing, I want to share with you the reasons people ask for help/questions. None of which are wrong and I’ll get back to.
- Time Saving – You know the person asked will have the answer to the question, quicker than you can go and research the answer yourself.
- You have the solution, but are interested to see other peoples answers/opinions (validate).
- To create engagement, to start people talking… can be for an ultra motive .i.e. asking questions on a Facebook page > increase reach >lead to more sales.
- Attention/sympathy – you ask an unanswerable question or only part share information to create an unanswerable question.
- Shared blame…. if you ask/pay an “expert” and they can’t help, it subconsciously gives you a “get out clause” for not figuring out a solution yourself… justification for quitting.
- Distraction, I do this with my children a lot 😉 “Can you please help Mummy by getting my shoes?” Youngest runs off to get shoes whilst I finish the washing up in peace.
I have done all of the above at one time or another (OK multiple times). None of these are wrong! Just recognise when you are doing it and why, will help you to stop chasing your tail on subjects & not waist others time or yours.
I talked to the course provider & I feel sooo much better for it.
I’m sure there are more reasons to ask for help. *When was the last time you asked someone something & what was the reason behind asking, honestly? Answers in the comments please.
*Asking for 3 engagement & 2 validation 😉
I think I find myself answering more questions than asking them! It gets pretty tiring. 🙂
Maybe you could direct people asking you all the questions to this post, with love and affection of course 😉
Distraction, I just a second ago asked my daughter to go and find her top, just so that I had five seconds to read this 😉
