How are your Goals shaping up? Not got any yet? Start here Last month’s blog on goal setting with free template!
Start Just Start
Writing goals, dreaming, visioning, whatever you want to call it, can be really easy and tremendous fun. But unless you start by taking action they’ll just be dreams and a waste of paper and good creative imagination. No one likes a waste:-/
As said in the last post, you should have done something as soon as you nailed the goal just to start. Starting is always the hardest part. It doesn’t have to be pretty or perfect or even “the right” start, but in starting you have something to work from.
Ideas for getting started:
- Have a Swipe File – anything that you see that you like in relation to your goal, make note, screen capture, sketch and put in a file on your desktop. If for any reason you become stuck you can look and see what has worked for others. Disclaimer: this is not to say copy, just inspiration to make your own.
- Brian Fart (you heard me) – find a clear wall, write down on post-its everything in your head (new thought new post-it), stick to the wall. Once the head is clear and wall is covered, organise your post-its. I suggest starting with the culling of negative rubbish that really is not serving you being in there in the first place.
- Take a “this sh!t just got real step!” – Put some money where your heart is. Want to hold an event? Book the venue, pay the deposit. Want to be able to afford a fab holiday? Book it. Want more time? Outsource something. Want to get stuff done? Hire an Accountability Coach *hint hint* 😉
Ideas for motivation:
- Identify what will make you do it.
- Start Now!
- Tell someone.
Prep for When the Going Gets Tough:
The easiest way to deal with the tough times is knowing they will happen and manage them now.
- Max 3 things on your daily ToDo list. No more. If you get more done great but there is no pressure to get any more done. Just imagine if you got 3 things done to a good standard a day, how much will you have achieved by 2018?
- 1% improvement is still an improvement.
- No matter what happens you made progress, even if it’s learning that something didn’t work.
- Something is better than nothing. Even if it’s not perfect, go with it as it’s way easier to improve something tangible (see getting started tips above)
- You may also find that it’s good enough or publishing when your not 100% happy with it throws up areas to look at that you’ll never even have considered.
- Doing nothing is the worst as you cannot grow either your business or your learning.
So take a big breath and start. You can do this!
