“I am not what happened to me. I am what I chose to become,” Carl Gustav Jung.
Well, that really says it all, doesn’t it? As a person, we have made choices to get where we are today and who we have become. Yet many of us don’t take the time to really look at how far we have come as a person. Sure, we might go and acknowledge that something we are doing today was something we could only dream about achieving this time last year. But it’s the in-depth analysis which often gets missed.Reflecting is more in-depth.
But not anymore.
Today is going to be the day where you stop and think. Really think. Really think on a deep level about not only what you have done, but also how you felt during that time.
Stop Right Now, Thank You Very Much
Every day can offer us the good, the bad and the ugly. It’s how we deal with it which matters.
“It’s not a failure, it’s only data. Use it to tweak what you’re doing and keep going,” Claire Kerslake.
Tweaking is possible through reflection. Reflection allows us to assess what happened, how we felt and identify a plan to move forward from here. So I’d like you to ask yourself these questions:
- How did you feel when something amazing happened for you and/or your business?
- What did you feel like when shitty stuff happened to you and/or your business?
- How did you feel during the lonely times when running your business?
Now, honestly tell me, did you just read those questions without thinking about the answers, or did you actually stop and really think. I appreciate that reflection doesn’t come easily to many, but I also know that it helps propel us forward. So if you didn’t, go back and do it now. I’ll wait.
Looking Back Helps You To Move Forward
Giving yourself credit for the work you have done and what you have achieved is even more important than looking forward to seeing what you still have to do. Cherish each step you take along your journey and recognise how they have helped change you into who you are today.
It has been all about you working through and deciding which choices have worked for you and being okay with knowing that your path is not for everyone. Acknowledging that how you deal with stuff doesn’t have to be approved by others, as you are the ‘approver’ when it comes to you.
The End Illusion
There is no such thing as a final destination. Goals are there to be achieved, but they will be replaced by new ones. You may take your business to where you want it to go, but it will always be booked on another journey.
“Just because the past didn’t turn out like you wanted it to, doesn’t mean your future can’t be better than you’ve ever imagined,” Unknown.
