Don’t you wish every day was Monday?
I do because I love my job and I have the most amazing productive workspace at home. Having an office or study makeover can essentially bring you back your mojo. It gets the creative juices flowing and allows you to achieve some serious work.
Design Hacks for a Productive Workspace
Research has shown that around 80% of people on LinkedIn either don’t like or hate their job. 80%. That’s an awfully large number of Monday haters.
A wise man (Dr B.J. Fogg, Director of Stanford’s Persuasive Tech Lab) once said,
“There’s just one way to radically change your behaviour: radically change your environment.”
So, I’m going to share with you, my best ideas on creating an amazing workspace to skyrocket your productivity.
1. Don’t be a Vampire – let the sunshine in! Not only does it give you all sorts of gooey feelings, but it also makes you work smarter. Even if you do kinda love the Gothic, young forever, TV Vampier look 😉
2. Pump Up the Sounds – listening to music can increase your productivity. In a busy office, wearing noise cancelling headphones will let you listen without annoying others. In a home office, your stereo can be your best friend. The thing to be aware of is that not all music helps us work better. Scientists have found that classical music, some video soundtracks, instrumental and nature music are great for helping your productivity.
3. Invest in Pot Plants – a fern, venus fly trap or Japanese kokadema on your desk or in your office look fabulous.
“Investing in landscaping an office will pay off through an increase in office workers’ quality of life and productivity,”
said researcher Alex Haslam. Having plants around can increase your productivity by 15%.
LET IT GO – to make a more productive workspace
4. Go Clutter Free – ever heard the phrase, ‘a messy desk is a sign of a messy mind?’ It looks like our parents were right and that clean spaces help us work better. Try to spend around 10 minutes every day organising and decluttering your workspace. If you work from home, hiring a housekeeper to help is a fabulous benefit to your sanity. And if it’s for your productive workspace, it’s Tax deductible too. Get in!
5. Use a Fragrance – engage your senses on your journey towards achieving a more productive workplace! Peppermint helps lift your mood, while pine increases your alertness. Cinnamon is great for improving your focus, while citrus wakes you up!
6. Make it your own – I have a Punch Bag up in my office. This is not everyone’s idea of great office decor but it is something I love and use. When I need to figure something out (or something has pissed me off ;-b ), I can jump on the bag and work it out. Now that is a Productive Workspace. Make an office that nurtures you and fully supports your working style. Be quirky, be you.
If you’ve been following my Facebook page, you’ll see my office recently had a makeover. Here is it during & the picture above is it now. I’d love to hear about your workspace too! Let me know in the comments what you’ve done or what you plan on doing to make increase productivity in your workplace too!
