Making a dream into a reality.

Dream

Over the past few months I have been more productive than I have been in a while. My clients won’t have noticed a change, people on my social media won’t have noticed a change, in fact a lot of friends and family wouldn’t have noticed a change because most of it has all been background work to make what is seen, seem effortless. I have been working on big dreams.

There have been massive steps taken to achieve very long term goals.

The 1st is now very public (you can order yours here http://www.thekiwiplanner.co.nz), a year of market research, investment and development has brought myself and Jackie Proctor from Spotty Lizard to launching our daily planner – made for New Zealand business owners.

The balancing act between; wanting to cover every signal eventually, tools that could help & our own expertise to show off, with making it as elegant, clean and user friendly, made for stark reflections. Then throw in just the practicality of any product development and launch. Needless to say, I have been working to just get The Kiwi Planner going. Now it’s here and the idea is being so well received, I can’t wait to hold it against my chest (yes, I’ll be hugging it) instead of in my head. ETA end of September 2019.

But also…

The other massive, life changing actions I have been taking are around my biggest life goal. To find what I have always called “The Forever Home”

Bit of history for context

As a kid I grew up moving around a fair amount, with only one holding the hounor of the title “Home” over house. This one place backed out onto a park with long grass fields and copes (small forest areas) to explore. This is the type of environment I wanted for my children.

At the end of 2012 myself and my husband, kids and dog moved to New Zealand. My husband’s home country and region of Hawke’s Bay.

Living 10 months with my in-laws (yes we still get on), then finding a great stepping stone house, close to Daman’s (husband) work has been great for the past 7 years. BUT it has never been the dream. With the house on one of the busiest main roads in Napier, it wasn’t great for the wildling upbringing I wanted for the kids (and let’s be completely honest, myself).

New carpet

The beginning of August 2019, we put new carpet down in the house. A clear signal to us over the years that it’s time to move on. Seriously we had new carpet in the UK for all of six weeks before we moved to NZ.

So we started looking to move a little more rural. At first we looked at more stepping stone houses & sites. One Sunday packing in 5 open home visits, only for nothing to make us excited. Loads of “we could do” but no “this one”. 2 weeks into looking, back at Damian’s parents, after visiting properties local to them, he came across some land on the Property Brokers website.

This feels like IT

It looked amazing. Bare land. It just kept ticking off items on “The Forever Home” list. We called to view & fell in love. Next visit we took the kids and they fell in love. Our eldest, not keen on the idea of moving at all, was instantly persuaded. It’s good to have all involved on board with the dream.

You see why I have been productive?

So with the launch of The Kiwi Planner I have also been sorting out GetTech reports, checking out rates, talking with lawyers, brokers, agents. Learning all I can to make sure we’re not going in unprepared for what we know will be a hell of a lot of work but completely worth it.

A dream into reality don’t always come esay.

During all this my health has been bad. After never having tonsillitis as a child, I have managed to have it an impresistive 4 times in 2 months. This completely knocked my running off course and saw my weight, well sore.

This week has been when it’s all come together, with going unconditional on the land and getting a date for the planners it was a great time for myself and the kids to get Gastro. TMI?

My point is that, I know all this has been worth it. We take ownership on the 19th of September 2019, our 10 year wedding anniversary… sorry Tin (traditional anniversary gift), this year we’ve got each other the start of a life long dream. Maybe next year.

So what now?

We’ll be living in our current house on the busy road for the rest of this year, whist we plan and plant on the land. We have the canvas, now we’re going to start painting our dream into reality… I’m deep into the rabbit hole of permaculture, food forest and eco building. As well as stretching my entrepreneurial muscles to find ways to make the land work for us. This is going to be a lot of work & I can’t wait to get started.
