Reconnect On Tech Free Sunday
We are not a tech saturated family. We have no TV channels (just use a screen for DVD’s) and although we have a laptop, 2 smart phones & the children have heavily restricted basic tablet each, we’re not Gamers…. but that is still plenty enough tech to feel disconnected to the souls around us (& ourselves). Hence “Tech Free Sundays”. Here are the steps I take Saturday (obviously some only need doing 1st time) to have a completely tech free day.
- Let close family/friends know that you’ll not be contactable via any means other then face-to-face that day. Rekindle the art & excitement of the “drop-by”.
- Turn off tech at the wall…T.V. , DVD etc that includes the Wifi – Think how much you’ll save on your bills!
- Scheduled Facebook & other social media posts (optional – honestly a day wouldn’t kill you).
- Auto respond your emails with
“Thank you for your communication. I’m unplugged until Monday, when I’ll be happy to respond if required.
Have a nice day.”
5. Set your Monday alarm now.
6. This is the perfect time to recharge your devices for Monday.
7. Especially important if you have dependence (kids, husbands etc ;-); Plan an outing & down time activities.
- copy out that Pinterest recipe/DIY/craft activity
- go for a hike with picnic
- beach day with a football, Frisbee etc
- Pick your own
- Read a book
- Gardening
- Board games, chess, cards
- Write a letter (I wrote this blog on a Tech Free Sunday).
- Visit a relative
- Have a BBQ
- Bike ride
The list is endless.
Enjoy connecting by disconnecting & let me know in the comments what you get up to when you unplug 🙂
[…] Family time, need to be just that. Ditch the devices, all of them and just enjoy each others company. No learning agenda, no “I may need to check emails”. I sometimes think the biggest downside of home ed is we are so busy looking for what they are going to learn from doing that we forget to just be in the moment with them. Here is a blog on how to unplug with practical steps to take the day before. […]
[…] a bid to carry out a 31 day blog challenge and stay true to a commitment I made to my family to be Tech Free On Sundays, I have written this blog on Friday night, typed it up on Saturday and scheduled it for […]
I like that idea, we’re not tech heavy either, the kids sometimes play on a pad, we have only dvd’s rather than ‘real’ tv, but I am online a lot. I whole day without any of it would be good.
