Information Overload?
I’ve just done a massive UNSUBSCRIBE binge. Purged my inbox of some truly fantastic content, from some people I highly respect. So why have I done this? To stick with my principle of Forging Your Own Path.
We can all get lost in the “this is how it’s done” information overload, but even the best advice, if not actioned, is still just white noise.
I then took it a step further, started culling huge amounts of my own notes and physical information stored in my office, that have been saved for “when I get round to it”. I can tell you now, it feels sooooo much better & I know there will be less distraction.
So I invite you to have an information clear out…if you are not going to take Action on information gathered within the next 3 months, ditch it! You can always source it again at a later date if required. 🙂
Great read on the subject: Bev James – Do It! or Ditch it
Now for you: Let me know in the comments bellow; When was the last time you purged yourself of even good information? Will this be something you will try for yourself? What is the most out of date piece of information you found whilst culling?
Last time was when I had just had my baby (now 9 months old) and I came home after limited internet access to hundreds of emails…very few of which were personal!! I do need to do it again though…I currently have over 100 unopened in my inbox for ‘when I get round to it’!
Time for a clear out 😉
Every few months I go through all my emails and do a big unsubscribe purge. I do the same with my Facebook feed, and every few weeks I tackle all the paper work floating around the house and my desk drawers. It’s very refreshing!
That’s a really good habit 🙂
Oh I so need to do this. My subscriptions inbox has maxed out on 999+ and I am too scared to touch it! I’m scared of forgetting where I find this “must have” information tho…. maybe I should keep a web address database instead…
Sounds familiar… like a former me. I bet if you sat down one evening you could more then 1/4 that amount just by getting rid of repeat information. I challenge you Kate! 😉
I’m constantly seeming to purge the info overload. Where on earth does it all come from?
I’ve also got Bev’s book staring me in the face right now, waiting to be read! 🙂
It’s a really good no BS read 🙂
Well done AJ,
I have a habit of frequently unsubscribing especially if I have not looked at anything for 2 months. I know lots of people experience email overload.
It’s always easier said than done 🙂
Wendy x
It’s not easy at 1st but you get better with practice & it feels sooooo good after. How long does it normally take you now to have a cull Wendy? x
