(n) Plug-ins; are nifty little add-ons that super charge your website
If you haven’t read part 1 check it out here.
Since part 1 I have come across some really cool sites, programs, people & plug-ins.
I knew that having a website would be as useful as ice in the Arctic unless people saw it. This meant making sure that Search Engines like Google were looking at it.If you haven’t got a Google Account, get a Google Account, even if you only use it for Google Analytics which not only points Google’s Search Engine towards your website, but also gives great insights for you to draw from. I could go into how to do all of this but at this time I’m going to defer to YouTube, for How to Create a Google Account & Getting Started with Google Analytics.
Then I hit the Plug-ins!!!
- SEO – I use Yoast
- Images – Image Widget (Widgets is what they call the bits you add around the page .i.e. down the sides, footer etc)
- Sharing – Shareaholic
- Forms – Ninja_Forms
All above are free & can be found by searching wordpress.org
Then I hit the mother load! WPMU DEV (costing about $40 US per month. I got started with an App Sumo Deal $79US for the year) is a dashboard plug-in with Themes & Plug-ins enough to turn you in to a website developer yourself!
From WPMU DEV I added:-
- Comments + so people could comment on my blog using their social media log in rather then set up a new account.
- Membership
- Footer
Other things I’ll be adding soon include
- Taking Payments
- Log-in Redirect
- Pop Up Lead Capture
- Directory (to another site I manage)
There is soooo much cool stuff to explore & I highly recommend it. No I’m not an affiliate of WPMU DEV, just a very happy user.
Now it’s your turn: Have you got any Plug-ins you love to use? What adapting have you done to your site since setting it up? If you haven’t set up a sit yet, what is holding you back? Comment below.
[…] should get you started. Once I’ve done some more to this site I’ll post Part 2 […]
I have a WPMU membership as well. Don’t find there’s much use to many of their plug-ins – well, maybe with regards to what I need. I got their membership for $20/mth (around £13/mth) & use the Appointments+ plug-in only at the moment. Would love to know your more detailed thoughts about the membership & payments plug-in (do you mean their ‘Marketplace’ plug-in?)
Hi Renee,
I have installed the WPMU DEV Dashboard on to my main WordPress site & have multi linked to other sites I work on for clients & other projects. Saving me huge amounts of time. Yes Marketplace is a useful eComms plugin, I don’t yet use it on my own but do on other sites:-)
Your starting to bring me over to WordPress! Maybe one day when I have the spare time to invest, i will move over. In the meantime i will keep chipping away at my limited site!
As long as you have a web presence that you control you’re doing better then most 🙂
